Richard Nixo reports from the Vietnam war in 1972

Richard Nixon won the presidential election in 1968 with the slogan''Peace With Honor.''The slogan indicated that Nixon's main task was to pull the U.S. out of Vietnam with honor intact. United States realized that they could not win the war. The fight against communism was thus fought by the U.S. funded and trained South Vietnamese forces (ARVN), while U.S. forces pulled out of the country. This was called the Nixon Doctrine (Guam Doctrine).

United States withdrew its forces from Vietnam in 1973. 58 000 American soldiers were killed in the conflict. Approximately 5.7 million Vietnamese, including about 3 million civilians, were killed in the Vietnam War. The war did finally end 30 April 1975.

Here you will hear Nixon's report on the Vietnam War 25 April 1972.
