Wild boar

The wild boar is a powerful mammal, which looks very similar to the pig. The wild boar has a dark, brushy fur. In winter, this is longer, and he has a thick undercoat. The adult male named Keiler has two buttocks, called by hunters "houwers". These buttocks are two buttocks in the lower jaw, facing upwards. The upper canines are also highly developed and point up. Over the chest the male has a four centimeter thick layer of cartilage, which serves as protection for the lungs and the heart in combat.

Males get bigger than females. A male is averaging 105 to 167 centimeters long, 64 to 109 centimeters high and 33 to 148 kilograms heavy. The tail can be 17 to 30 centimeters long. In eastern Germany males were found to be almost 200 kilograms heavy and up to 185 centimeters long. The record weight is 230 kilograms.
