1961 GDR: In Europe
Hagen Koch talks about the assignment he got to the middle by Berlin to draw a white line. This was by Berlin cross later erected a wall that now divided the city in communist East and the capitalist West. The people of the East tried to flee en masse and many people came here to the west. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, but to this day is the difference between the two parts noticeable in Berlin.
This episode is part of the series " In Europe, " which the VPRO sent out between 2007 and 2009 on TV (the series was also seen in that period on Canvas). This series is an adaptation of the book and is presented by its author Geert Mak.
