Drama discovery tour: Getting started with different aspects of drama

Afraid of acting?
The words theater and drama often scare people, both children and adults, because they are associated with having to cross your boundaries, expose yourself and be vulnerable. People are often afraid to let themselves go or be laughed at. But drama can be wonderfully liberating, especially if you can create a safe environment in which everyone can be themselves and discover their limits.

In this further training you will be taken on a journey of discovery in the world of drama and expression for one day. You will experiment with feelings, characters, the possibilities of your voice, body expression, space, text, improvisation... and all this in a safe environment where anything can happen and may arise and where nothing is wrong. All exercises have been designed for students in the second and third grades of primary education. After completing this training you will be able to start working with them immediately. You can then choose to work on a specific aspect for an entire lesson. But you can also just use a separate exercise every now and then to move around with your students and get creative. Drama focuses on the experience of pleasure and the well-being of the group. Moreover, as a teacher you will help them to dare and let them experience it, all in a safe environment. You teach them that it is extremely valuable to dare to set your limits and say that you really don't want to do something.

After following the further training:

• you have a whole arsenal of drama exercises at your disposal to get creative with your students;
• are you able to create a safe environment in which everyone can discover their body, voice and other parts of themselves at their own pace;
• do you know for yourself what you like and what you find uncomfortable in dramatic working methods;
• do you understand the boundaries of others?
