Pop music for the masses or each subgroup its genre: Audiovisual teaching materials

In this collection you will find image and sound fragments about pop music, together with more context and concrete teaching tips.

Pop music is derived from the word 'popular' music, which literally refers to music that is popular with the general public. The number of pop idols has grown since the 1950s. Artists such as Buddy Holly, Bill Haley and Elvis were very popular with their swinging rock 'n' roll. In the 1960s, the goal of many musicians was to appeal to the largest possible audience. More fans meant selling more records and undoubtedly a place at the top of the charts.
