ICT integration in the engineering profession

Introduction

This case study collects a number of examples of the use of ICT within the techniques box. The first two examples deal with the use of simulation and technical drawing software. The third example shows how ICT can be integrated into project work.

Vision

ICT in this school mainly a practical function. The students can learn to work with software that they will still need such as technical drawing and information processing skills on the Internet. In the higher grades and their future professional field in the first degree ICT is not seen as an end in itself but rather as a tool for acquiring skills that the students in the professional will need. Later
ICT is also seen as a medium to bring. The lectures outside the classroom walls Students who need more time or highly motivated can - if they want it - at home continue working. So ICT provides opportunities to tailor the individual needs of the student. Away learning more

Infrastructure

In the various workshops of the school are always four computers per ten students present. In this way, the students always work individually or in pairs on a task. Examples of software are present Meclab, SolidWorks, Caddy + +. But can also refer to the students during class home training, exercises, improve key illustrating movies and verification sheets. Via eloV This supports the work independently.

Organization

The experiment using ICT is central techniques in the different classes. The students usually get a brief bit of theory after which they independently - individually or in pairs - experiment. So for example, they use simulation software to explore the effect of series and parallel connections and learn independently. The teacher acts as a coach and will guide the students individually when problems arise.
During the project work the students work with different ICT applications simultaneously. While some students to find materials and explore the internet, draw a design from others or they are looking for examples of possible designs.

Experiences and suggestions

The students experience it as motivating that they can develop. Assignments using the computer Indeed, the simulation software provides instant feedback that allows them to identify and correct errors immediately. In addition, the software capabilities to more accurately measure and draw and can also work better in 3D.
