We, women: Teaching package

This lesson package has been developed around the Canvas series We, women .

Half a century ago, married women in this country were not allowed to open their own bank accounts. It was not until 1976 that married women were given the right to manage their own financial affairs. Today, men and women officially have the same rights. But in practice there remain major differences. Women are still paid less for the same job, even if they work the same number of hours per week as men. Women are still attacked by men much more often than the other way around. Women still do much more work in the family than men.

So what about women and men in our country? What has changed in recent years? What have women had to do to truly be treated as men's equals? We asked nineteen women that. The oldest was 85, the youngest 27. They told us how they were raised, what they were told at school, how they were discriminated against at work and how they fought and are fighting for equal rights.

They are often very impressive stories. Sometimes also moving stories. We, women : a series from Canvas about the fight that women have had to fight, and which is not yet over.

The teaching package was created by Uitgeverij Van In.
