Female genital mutilation and gender-based violence: talk plates

Recent research shows that FGM also affects many families in Belgium: it is estimated that 13,112 women have undergone the practice and another 4,084 girls are at risk of being mutilated. This number is on the rise.

To prevent even more girls and women in Belgium from being subjected to the practice, prevention must be used. To this end, a better general insight is essential.

This tool is aimed at people who learn to read and write and / or people who learn Dutch in class or group. Many people from involved communities at some point call upon such training (integration, OKAN, literacy), which form an appropriate framework to address the issue. Moreover, it is an opportunity to inform people who might otherwise have more difficulty access to certain information.

The purpose of the talk boards is therefore to inform people in a low-threshold way about the various aspects related to FGM and other forms of gender-based violence. In addition, the drawings also allow, depending on the interests of the participant (s), to address (other) themes, such as migration, discrimination, health, etc. This game wants the participant (s) encouraging (st) ers to separate gender-based violence from culture and to recognize the phenomenon across borders.

In the manual, the necessary information about the topics covered was included in an orderly manner with the intention of making the theme, which may sometimes seem difficult to discuss, efficiently accessible to the supervised person.
